I have an 120GB Zune and within one month I had an issue with it and they had to replace it. While I was waiting for my beloved Zune to return, I bought a 8GB Ipod and I loved it. I have my Zune back and I listen more to that. It’s all in what you want but please research both. Although I love the Zune, if I had researched the issues before I bought it, I may have the 120GB Ipod instead. I do not regret the Zune because I love it and listen to it daily but who knows…

I’m sure if you want it to just play music, like the regular ipod or zune, either one will be good enough.
If you love itunes I would go for the ipod. If you like using other players, get a zune.
